What Does Being a Literacy Volunteer Student Mean?

It means that your thoughts and feelings are important to Literacy Volunteers. You can tell your tutor or the Literacy Volunteers office if there is something you think will help your tutoring or the Literacy Volunteers program.

It means that the tutoring is free of charge.

It means that you agree:

  • To meet with your Literacy Volunteer tutor for approximately two hours of tutoring a week
  • To meet your tutor at a place convenient to both of you, like a library
  • To make a serious commitment to improve your reading ability
  • To meet with your tutor as regularly as possible even though there are other important things in your life
  • To practice between tutoring sessions
  • To call your tutor if you can’t meet with him or her as planned
  • To help your tutor set your goals and decide what to do at each tutoring session
