Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore, CT, Inc. trains volunteer tutors to teach Basic Reading and English As A Second Language primarily to adult residents of the Valley Shore area who cannot read, write or speak English, or who would like to improve these basic skills. This one-to-one instruction is held confidential and is completely without charge to the student.

Students Express Gratitude!
One student wrote: I was afraid to leave home alone because I couldn't understand when people were talking to me. I thought that if I got lost on street, I couldn't get directions to come back home. I never went to restaurants because I couldn't order from the menu. I couldn't apply for a job or have an interview in English...Right now, I can go wherever I like, I can express my opinions and my thoughts. I can order food at any restaurant and I have been taking interviews in English."
Another wrote: "I can speak and understand more English. Now I can speak with other people in English. I can do more things without help. I can ride the bus to go shopping."
