Oh, a lots. As a new immigrant living in America, we don’t know many things. We don’t know foods name, we don’t know size of clothes, we don’t know the sign board beside the road, we don’t know how to pay taxes, we don’t know how to find job, and so on. For all of these, we need read, write, and spoken English well, otherwise, we could not survive in an straight country. Marie is a volunteer who is LVVS assigned for me. We study English about how to read, write and speak. I learned syntax in China, however, it is hard to use in real situation. For example: “I finish.” , most of American just say: “I am done.” or “The end of it.” , “What’s up?” is meaning “How are you?”. Beside learn English, Marie tell me some common sense about America, make me better understand culture here. Another the important thing for me is to listen English. It’s very different between Briton English pronounce and American English pronounce. First came here, I almost can’t clear what is people saying. To overcome it, only one way to do, that is to keep listening and talking every day. Before I afraid to buy food, go to bank, go to library, now I am much better. LVVS is a good system in U.S. for helping new immigrant and free for US. My teater always push me to learn more and more. Yet, I know some very kind of people donate to this organization. I appreciate them. One day, I will return the society by my action, let more people feeling warn in the world. Ping He |
