Students Name: Gloria Robison Tutors Name: Loretta Scribner Time Tutored: 3 years, 7 months Time in U.S.A.: 9 years, 5 months Level: Level 4+ (High Advanced) To start with coming to this country had a major obstacle before I even arrived. I spoke almost no English at all. When I first arrived I could not communicate with anyone who did speak and understand English. After a lot of investigation I found out from a friend about a valuable program, I think changed my life. The people in this program who selflessly help you and not only with the language but they teach the culture, about the holidays and the customs of the Americans. Now, the first thing was to contact this organization. My husband called and we talked to a few different people until I was finally teamed up with Mrs. Loretta Scribner. Her toughness and discipline was a great benefit. After our weekly visits I found it easier and easier to communicate and deal with my daily routine. Mrs. Loretta even played an enormous part in my passing my Citizenship exam. We spent many hours studying the long history of this country. We talked about the wars, the Presidents, the complete history of America. When my husband would quiz me he always told me I knew more about this Country than he did. and he was born here. After all this time, I am able to communicate with my husband 1000 times better when we first met, we used to sit down with a Spanish to English dictionary. The same with my Son Spanish or English they both understand me clearly the first time. I do not have a problem with parent teacher meetings. I understand everything. I do not need my husband to communicate with my customers. I can run my bussines almost alone. I feel quite sure of myself at the store or pharmacy or anyplace I need to communicate in English, with makes me feel even more proud of my accomplishments. I see myself improving everyday, my future is so bright and none of this was possible without Mrs. Loretta and this fabulous program. I not found a teacher. I found wonderful friend. Once again God bless this program and the people who give there time. It’s a wonderful thing.
