Tutors
In order to acheive the goals of Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore, CT, Inc., volunteer tutors are required. Two Tutor Training programs are held anually in order for our tutors to be fully trained and certified to properly teach our students. These programs consist of 7 two hour sessions.
Our organization is constantly growing and gaining students. There are 15 sudents currently on our waiting list, and we recieve new inquiries often. We are in desperate need for more tutors, and can always use the extra help.
In order to provide a consistent tutoring experience with our students, we ask that all tutors make a one year committment. There is no experience necessary as we provide the proper training. Matches with students are made considering available time, location, and your preference.
Students are interviewed prior to being accepted and are then determined to be either an English as a Second Language (ESL) student or a Basic Reading (BR) student. From there, a proper match is made with a tutor and the learning begins. Students and tutors generally meet twice a week for a total of about 2 hours.
Since our resources are limited and our tutoring services are provided free of charge, there is a $20 fee for the Tutor Training program.
If you are interested in helping Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore attain our goal, and possibly help a neighbor in need, please contact us by calling our office at, 860-399-0280. Tutor applications are available on this website here, or under the Documents section under the Tutor link above.
