Y.S. Former student whose tutor has just been put on hold. A woman in her early sixties from China, living in North Branford. Has been in the U.S. for 5 years, is not a citizen, and does not drive. Currently unemployed. Would like to become a citizen. Available weekdays after 7pm, Sunday mornings, and Saturdays 1-4.

J.M. A man in his late forties from Haiti, living in Deep River. Has been in the U.S. for over thirty-five years, and speaks English well. He would like help with reading comprehension. Available Tuesdays and Thursdays.

M.P. Husband of S.P. A man in his early forties from Honduras, living in Haddam. Has been in the U.S. for 20 years. Works full time as a foreman, is a citizen, and does drive. Eager to learn, needs help with pronunciation. Available evenings and weekends, possible location at the Deep River Library.

S.P. Wife of M.P. A woman in her mid thirties from Honduras, living in Haddam. Has been in the U.S. for 4 years. Works full time as a housekeeper, is a citizen, and does drive. She would like to learn English to improve her job prospects. She was a nurse, and would like to be able to practice here, but lacks the English skills. Available Evenings, possible location at the Deep River Library.

S.C. S.C. Husband of M.C. A man in his late thirties from Colombia, living in Clinton. Has been in the U.S. for 2 years, and is not a citizen. Does not have a car. Speaks and understands some English, would like to learn to read and write. Available Saturdays from 2-4pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9pm.

M.C. Wife of S.C. A woman in her late thirties from Colombia, living in Clinton. Has been in the U.S. for about 6 months, and is not a citizen. Does not have a car. A veritable beginner- needed translation for nearly every interview question. Would like to be able to communicate in English. Available Wednesdays and Fridays from 7-9pm.

J.R. A former student. A man in his mid-fifties from Ecuador, living in Clinton. Has been in the U.S. for about 18 years. Works full time in a restaurant. Met with former tutor at the Clinton Library.

A.S. A woman in her early thirties from Brazil, living in Westbrook. Has been in the U.S. for 11 years. Works part-time as a house cleaner. Would like to learn better pronunciation, and improve her English for parent/teacher meetings- she has three children, one with autism. Loves to write. Does drive, is not a citizen. Available after 5pm, flexible schedule.

V.C. A woman in her mid-twenties from Ecuador, living in Westbrook. Has been in the U.S. for a year. Works part-time as a house cleaner. Has two young children. Soft-spoken and shy, needed translation from her sister on most interview questions. Available evenings and Saturdays.

F.A. A woman in her early twenties from Bangladesh, living in Westbrook. Has been in the U.S. for a matter of days. Is not yet employed, and would like to learn English for everyday needs. Needed interview questions translated. Knows almost no English, but is eager to learn. She would prefer a female teacher. Available from 10am to noon daily.

E.T. A woman in her late twenties from Ecuador, living in Old Saybrook. Has been in the U.S. for three years. Employed part time at Burger King. She speaks no English- all interview questions were translated for her by her husband. Has a young child and is driven to learn English to help him. They don’t have a car, but she is able to walk to the Acton Library.

J.R. A man in his mid forties from Ecuador, living in Clinton. Has been in the U.S. for two years. Employed full time at the Griswold Inn restaurant. Understands more English than he is able to express. Has some fundamental English vocabulary. Available Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

J.G. A man in his mid twenties- a basic reading student. Living in Guilford. Employed full time for the Easter Seals. Has completed high school through special education courses, but lacks basic reading skills. Had difficulty reading a children’s book during his interview. Very eager to learn, does not drive. Available mornings.

R.A. A woman in her late thirties from Bangladesh, living in Westbrook. Has been in the U.S. for 16 years. Currently unemployed. Would like to improve her English skills for employment and getting a driver’s license. Does not drive, but is able to walk to the Westbrook Library. Operates at a high level of English comprehension. Available mornings.
